Obviously, since I'm losing so slowly, I need to cut calories. I went to www.drsimpson.net - he has a BMR calculator on his website. A BMR is a basal metabolic rate - it's the base number of calories that your body uses in a day. To lose a pound, you have to eat 500 calories less than your body uses everyday. To lose 2 pounds, you have to eat 1000 calories less than your body uses every day. <br /><br />According to Dr Simpson's website, my BMR is a little over 2000. This means that I have to eat less than 1500 calories a day to lose a pound or 1000 calories to lose 2 pounds. I've been eating about 1800. I've decided to modify my sparkpeople goals so that it reflects the 1500 calories a day that I need to consume. I'll TRY to use exercise to hit the other calories so that I CAN lose 2 pounds a week.<br /><br />Little Jillian and I are still competing on the Wii Fit. I'm in 1st place on some things and she's in 1st place in others. I absolutely LOVE the hula hoop. I can really tell that I've been working on it. My hips are so sore. She wants me to use the stationary bike today but I've told her that I'm taking it to my work. There just isn't any other way to put it. I actually think that it's partially because of the lack of structure. Think about it - during the week you are required to be at work at a specific time. You have lunch at a specific time. You go home at a specific time. That's not how the weekends work. At least, not for me. Generally, on weekends, I eat when I want. I wait until I'm too hungry to think before I eat and then I eat WAYYY too much.<br /><br />I think many people see the weekend as the time that they CAN cheat on their diet. I was on sparkpeople.com earlier and joyinloss / joy wrote "If you bite it, write it!". What a GREAT saying. And maybe that's the key? Keeping yourself accountable...<br /><br />I've also been very lax as far as my exercise is concerned. The Wii Fit disk has been messed up. I finally got a new one and Little Jillian and I are back to competing. We're having alot of fun on it. But, does the Wii count as cardio? Do you burn fewer calories than traditional exercise? Well, I have NO IDEA what the calorie content is. I finally found regular bread pudding. It has 310 calories for a 1 cup serving. That isn't fried. (I didn't eat THAT much, so I left it and hope that covers the fact it was fried!) That REALLY messed up my calorie count since I had planned on a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with a side of tomatoes. Oops. I guess sometimes you have to splurge with your friends...as long as you can cover the difference later.<br /><br />I DID manage to lose 1.6 lbs for my Biggest Loser weigh in. I was really proud. Granted, 1 lb of that was from the week before. That makes a total loss of .6 - UGH! It looks like the weekends LITERALLY either make or break my diet.<br /><br />I didn't do an entry yesterday due to the fact that I was sick. I stayed within my calorie range - mostly cause I was too sick to my stomach to eat. 6First of all, I think I'm going to start posting pictures. When I'm reading blogs (meltingmama.net is my favorite!), pictures really help. Maybe taking pictures of what I'm eating as well as the change in my backside will help keep me on track.<br /><br />The bad news is that I absolutely blew it. BLEW. IT. Period. The good news is that it's the first time this week that I've actually went over on my calories. But today? Popcorn. Check. Ice cream. Check. Lil Smokies. Check. Yup, I've absolutely blown it.<br /><br />The other great news is that I've messed up my knee. I heard it pop last night during my wii session. Apparently, when you knee pops like that it isn't good news. Who knew? On the plus side, Little Jillian DID give me a break today. It actually could have more to do with the new 'Sing It' wii game that I bought her. She's played that absolutely all day.<br /><br />My son, Jamie, pulled a really good move this morning. His truck will never be the same. I'm not sure of the true story - my bunch is pretty good about keeping Mom in the dark. He says that his tire dropped off of the side of the road - and that caused the steering 'column' to break. He literally couldn't steer the truck. What they didn't tell me was that he hit the ditch. Well, the rocks at the side of the ditch. There's damage but he can fix that. HE'S okay. That's the important part of this story. That worked out pretty well. I had already walked on the treadmill at work, so it was okay with her that I didn't work on the stationary bike! She's something! And, she did a fantastic job with her ball team. Her name is Jackie. Jackie is becoming Jillian-like in her quest to help her Mommy lose weight. She nagged at me until I rode the stationary bike for 30 minutes on Sunday night. I balked last night. My personal trainer only got 15 minutes out of me last night. She did, however, get her Daddy to play the Wii. This is pretty amazing considering we can NEVER get him to play on the Wii. Granted, it was Golf but at least he wasn't watching tv.<br /><br />Jackie was also kind enough to make a graph for me. The graph showed me where I did good and where I messed up. Thoughts...My caloric intake (according to sparkpeople.com) is going to have to be between 1640 - 1990. I'll also be tracking my protein, carb and fat intake. I am a huge carb-O-holic. So tracking my carbs should = fun. Before the lap-band, my entire diet was based on carbs. I loved rolls, pasta (of any type) and naturally pizza. I was forced to change my diet with the band - I do eat a lot more protein - mostly in the form of steak. <br /><br />Have I mentioned that I love sugar? Sugar is so addictive. At least, it is to me. How do I cut it out? I've tried just about everything. Including lap-band. Unfortunately, I had to have the lap-band removed, but that's another story for another day! Recently, some friends and I decided that we would try a new tactic. We would tell each other everything that we were eating. Yes, you can eat anything that you want, but telling your buddies that you've eaten cookies for supper puts a lot of guilt on a person. <br /><br />Anyway, welcome to my blog! I hope that we approach our new accountability with humor and grace. And I'm sure that we will.
